Australia’s growing LNG exports and gas-fired power sector could lead to regional supply crunches by 2018, particularly in the east and southeast where the major cities of Sydney and Melbourne are located, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) warned this week.
“The domestic gas sector in eastern and southeastern Australia is now linked to a more volatile world market for gas through our LNG export industry, and small supply chain disruptions can have large domestic impacts,” AEMO CEO Mike Cleary said.
