Poland, heavily dependent on coal for electricity, could possibly need more LNG as it transitions toward a lower-carbon economy, but a lack of state planning and competition from other energy sources limits the long-term prospects for gas, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a special report this week.
The country plans to build at least two large-scale nuclear power plants of around 3 GW each to partially replace coal-fired plants and cut emissions from the power sector, but fossil fuels will likely remain major energy sources for Poland, the IEA forecasted.
