The Manga LNG terminal in Finland’s Tornio province, located 80 km from the Arctic Circle, is scheduled to start commercial operations this summer, and will be supplied with LNG by Finnish natural gas provider Skangas, a 25% shareholder in the project. Two major steel mills and other manufacturing plants in the Scandinavian arctic region are hoping to slash their energy bills and carbon footprint thanks to LNG imports through the EUR 110 million (USD 135 million) terminal. Following a visit to the site earlier this year, LNG Business Review spoke to Skangas director of sales and marketing, Tommy Mattila, about the role Manga will play in advancing the position of gas as an alternative fuel in the region, as well as the company’s increasing drive in developing LNG bunkering in the Baltic.
