The Clean Power Plan (CPP) will give gas a larger share of the US power mix and yield deeper emissions cuts than predicted by the scheme's architect, the Environmental Protection Agency, according to an impact report published this week by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).
Under the EIA reference case, which assumes that states adopt an annual emissions limit, the CPP – currently held up in Supreme Court proceedings – will reduce emissions by 35% on 2005 levels by 2030 and could then remain flat until 2040.
