An international tribunal has ruled against a Chinese claim that it has rights to areas around the Philippines in the South China Sea.
The Hague-based Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled on seven of the 15 arguments brought by the Philippines and decided there was no evidence that China historically held exclusive control over territory or resources in the contested zone.
