Global gas demand will continue to grow in all climate mitigation and economic growth scenarios over the next 45 years, the World Energy Council (WEC) said in its latest long-term energy forecast on Monday, despite demand for coal and oil peaking well before 2060.
According to the WEC’s World Energy Scenarios 2016, which presents three different cases, gas demand will not peak in any scenario over the next 45 years, driven by fuel switching from coal and oil to gas in the power and transport sectors respectively.
