Independent power producers (IPPs) were awarded a quarter of all gas pipeline capacity on offer in Mexico’s first open season, signalling a further milestone since the country began liberalising its energy market, according to news sources.
Unverified reports suggested that IPPs, most of whom foreign-owned companies, were awarded 1.56 Bcm/y of the 6.3 Bcm/y transmission capacity on offer. Private sector users with existing capacity rights were awarded 1.64 Bcm/y.
