Hydraulic fracturing can severely impact drinking water, unless carefully managed, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) concluded this week in a six-year study.
In its final report, the state-backed agency said that impacts could range from “temporary changes” in water quality to contamination that renders private drinking water wells “unusable”.
