Gas-fired plants will become the long-term leader of the US power mix, but that shift could require an extra decade if the contentious Clean Power Plan (CPP) is scrapped, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicted in its latest long-term energy forecast.
The updated EIA Annual Energy Outlook, released on Friday, presented two reference cases with a 2050 horizon – one factoring in the CPP, the other assuming the proposed measures are dismantled either in its upcoming judicial review or by governmental actions under the administration of incoming president-elect Donald Trump.
