The nascent carbon capture and storage (CCS) sector in Europe took a fresh hit last week when utility majors Uniper and Engie withdrew from the ROAD pilot project in the Netherlands, but the possibility of EU aid hint at green shoots elsewhere on the continent.
ROAD had aimed to pump 1.1 mtpa of CO2 from a coal-fired plant near the Port of Rotterdam into an empty North Sea gas field by the end of 2020.
