India’s demand for natural gas is growing fast and has so far proved to be resilient to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and government responses to it. As the first article in this two-part series [1] explained, initiatives to increase demand further include rationalising pipeline tariffs, establishing trading hubs, promoting the growth of city gas distribution, and boosting the load factors of underutilised gas-fired power stations.
But what about supply? Part two considers the challenges India faces in sourcing sufficient natural gas, building the necessary import and delivery infrastructure to meet its ambitious 2030 targets, and the implications for LNG.
