In August 2020 Australia released 42 new offshore areas for oil and gas exploration - an announcement that was welcomed by an oil and gas industry feeling the pinch of a Covid-19 induced drop in demand and depressed prices.
This year’s acreage release covers areas off the coast of Australia’s Northern Territory, Western Australia, Victoria and the Ashmore and Cartier Islands. It includes blocks in the Browse and Northern Carnarvon Basins near the Woodside-operated North West Shelf project.
