Green hydrogen production got a boost this week, with two key deals being struck.
BP and Iberdrola announced they reached final investment decision for the construction of a 25 MW green hydrogen plant in Spain on Thursday.
It was a small but significant step towards Spain’s goal of producing 11 GW of green hydrogen by 2030.
With its abundant sunshine and wind, Spain has great potential for generating the levels of renewable energy needed to produce green hydrogen at scale. The country is also geographically well placed to transport green hydrogen to the rest of Europe.
To that end, Spain sealed a key bilateral deal with China this week.
During Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's visit to Beijing, he met Chinese president Xi Jingping, an an agreement to build a USD 1 billion electrolyser production plain in Spain — targeted to be built in the first half of 2026 — was also signed.
Emirati and Indian ties were also strengthened this week, when ADNOC inked a deal with Indian Oil to supply LNG to the South Asian giant for 15 years. The fuel will "primarily" come from ADNOC's Ruwais facility, being constructed in Abu Dhabi.
