Cybersecurity and IT resilience have become a major concern for energy companies in recent years, as cyberattacks make the headlines with increasing frequency against the backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions in which these vulnerabilities might be exploited. In 2023 alone, more than 200 reported cyber incidents targeted the energy sector.

Among the initiatives aimed at strengthening the cybersecurity of the energy sector, the European Energy Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (EE-ISAC) brings together utilities, solutions providers, academics and governmental and non-profit organisations  to share information on cyber security and cyber resilience.

In this interview with Massimo Rocca, board member of EE-ISAC, Gas Matters discusses the main areas of collaboration that the organisation is currently focusing on, and the biggest cybersecurity threats faced by the energy sector, amid the ongoing trends of renewables growth, electrification and digitisation of operations.
