Primary Energy

The gross amount of energy used, measured in the quantities of the original fuel produced (e.g. crude oil) before conversion to other forms (e.g. refined petroleum products or electricity). Thus hydroelectric power and nuclear power are Primary, but power from generating stations consuming fossil fuels is not.
