Top global LNG buyer Jera has submitted plans to the Japanese economy ministry to build 5.6 GW of new thermal power generation capacity, roughly 75% of which gas-fired and 25% coal-fired.
Jera – a joint-venture between Japanese utilities TEPCO and Chubu Electric Power – plans to gradually replace aging power plants owned by TEPCO. The new gas-fired and coal-fired units could come online in 2022-2023 if the application is successful, Jera said.
