ExxonMobil has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop the Caledonia LNG project, which would refuel ships operating in the northern UK and North Sea.
The preliminary deal would see the US multinational partner with UK-based services firm Babcock International, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) and the local authorities of the Calor and Orkney islands off the northeast coast of Scotland.
