The EU remains worryingly vulnerable to potential energy supply shocks “despite the considerable progress made in recent years to enhance Europe’s energy security”. So said the European Commission (EC) yesterday as it published the second report on the status of the EU’s Energy Union initiative – a priority of which is enhancing security of supply, following disruptions to Russian gas flows during the 2000s.
The launch of the report was partly overshadowed by the threat that many perceive the new US President – Donald Trump – represents to international climate policy development, another priority of the Energy Union initiative.
