The UK went a full 24 hours on Friday without a single kilowatt-hour of electricity being supplied by British coal-fired power plants, according to system operator National Grid.
The grid was powered primarily by gas-fired CCGT plants (50.3%) and nuclear (21.2%), with wind at 12% and French, Dutch and Irish interconnectors together supplying 9%. France’s nuclear fleet provided the bulk of the imports.
