Russian state-run energy giants Gazprom and Rosneft are spearheading fresh efforts by Russia to make tactical inroads into the sought-after but challenging hydrocarbons sector in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The two companies have each presided over separate high-level meetings in recent days with political leaders from Moscow and the Kurdistan region of the Islamic Republic of Iraq, in an apparent move to bolster Kremlin influence in a strategically significant part of the Middle East.
