Supermajors ExxonMobil and Total, along with local partner Oil Search, have reached a broad agreement on a plan that will double LNG exports from gas-rich Papua New Guinea from around 8 mtpa to 16 mtpa. The trio of companies will collaborate to build three new LNG trains as part of a single integrated brownfield development that is expected to start up around 2022-23 to take advantage of a forecasted tightening in global LNG supply.
