LNG data 2018: Year ends with surge in activity and start-up of four trains

Global LNG supply increased by 11.3 mt (15%) year on year in the fourth quarter of 2018 – the fastest quarterly growth since the early part of the decade when Qatar was commissioning its six mega-trains. This took total supply for the year to 314.7 mt, an increase of 25 mt (8.6%) over 2018.

The rapid growth for the quarter contrasted with the first nine months of the year when a combination of delays in the start-up of new trains and more-than-usual planned and unplanned maintenance saw a 6.3% growth in output – much slower than forecasts made at the beginning of the year.
