Turkey’s Fatih drillship has made a natural gas discovery of some 320 Bcm (~11 Tcf) at the Tuna-1 well in Turkey’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the Black Sea, president Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced today. This is the first significant gas discovery in Turkey and comes at a time when tensions are high in the eastern Mediterranean over Turkey’s encroachment of Greece and Cypriot offshore territory there, ostensibly in the pursuit of natural gas reserves.
