LNG trading continued to grow in the last quarter of 2021, as supply increased by 5.4 mt (6%) year on year, taking the annual total to 373.85 mt – up by 18.13 mt (5.1%) compared with 2020. It was a year in which Japan, after nearly 50 years as the largest LNG market, was deposed as the world’s top importer by China, while Australia supplied 1.5 mt, making it clearly the largest exporter, after exports in 2020 were marginally higher than Qatar’s.
