Gas-fuelled mobility, including the use of LNG as fuel in long-haul trucking, risks to become one of the victims of the current energy crisis, as persistently high gas prices coincide with a greater push to decarbonise transport and the sped-up development of competing technologies, such as electric vehicles (EVs). However, the sector’s supporters insist that natural gas still has a key role to play in transportation, chiefly by opening up the path to biofuels, which could, pressed on by the energy transition, end up taking a central role in green mobility sooner than first thought.
