With financial support from Western partners, Egypt is planning to speed up its energy transition, a move that could free up more gas volumes for LNG exports. But with limited solar and wind power capacity, which currently totals around 4 GW, the Arab world’s most populous nation relies on natural gas for about 75% of its electricity generation. This absorbs a significant portion of domestic gas production and may restrict the ability for Egypt to increase LNG exports.
