Nuclear energy is seeing a renaissance in the US, and thanks to renewed government support and the development of next-generation technology, it has the potential to become a key contributor to the country’s energy transition efforts in coming years. In November last year, US President Joe Biden’s administration passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which established a USD 6 billion Civil Nuclear Credit (CNC) programme to support existing nuclear capacity in the US – a “vital resource for achieving the President’s goal of 100% clean electricity by 2035 and a net-zero emissions economy by 2050,” according to the US Department of Energy (DoE).
