Mexico’s gas output has declined significantly over the past decade. Unable to meet its steadily growing consumption, it has become the world’s second-largest net importer of gas via pipeline, with volumes sourced from the US. But with plans to export US natural gas from Mexico as LNG increasing the risk of pipeline bottlenecks in the country, transport capacity will have to keep pace with liquefaction projects coming online, industry sources tell LNG Business Review.
