Between 6-9 June, an estimated 373 million EU citizens across 27 countries will be heading to the polls to elect the 720 members of the European parliament (MEPs) who will represent them for the next five years. The four-day elections mark a momentous time for the bloc and could impact its energy and climate action strategy. While the EU has for a long time been a world leader in addressing climate change, as highlighted by the Green Deal, approved in 2020, which set a 2050 net-zero emissions target, support for Brussels’s green agenda has diminished recently.
