Public Service Obligation

Public Service Obligation

A Public Service Obligation (PSO) is a requirement imposed by government on a company or companies to provide services which might not otherwise be profitable but are judged to be in the public interest. These could, for instance, include supplying gas to small or poor consumers, ensuring that appliances and other infrastructure is operating efficiently and safely, and ensuring that there are sufficient back-up gas supplies to cover emergency interruptions in supply.
