Trap

A configuration of reservoir and seal rocks that can confine gas (or oil) which are lighter than water normally contained in the reservoir rock. Structural traps are formed by a closed structure of Reservoir rock overlain by a sealing formation (the Seal). May also be formed by stratigraphic changes within a reservoir rock in which case it is known as a stratigraphic trap.
